A Brief Introduction:
Cadillac First Congregational Church - UCC was organized in December 1882 by an ecumenical group of Congregationalists, Catholics, Episcopalians, Methodists and others who not only sought God, but also saw relationships between humans as worthy of being cared for as sacred mission. This is still a guiding principal in our faith community today, where out heritage is old, but like our ancestors, we are not afraid to seek new understandings to be in relationship with God and with one another. Today you see this lived out through the "Love Thy Neighbor - No Exceptions" Action Projects, and the diverse theological perspectives
of our members, friends, and even pastors.
After our founders established the church in 1882, they built our first meetinghouse building at our current location in 1883. That building served as a tool for ministry for nearly 40 years. It is notable that it housed one of Cadillac's first libraries and also Cadillac's first kindergarten. The building was razed in the early 1920s and the current colonial revival structure was built in 1923. In short, we've been doing inclusive ministry in Cadillac for more than 140 years!
Of course, that is just a summary of our historical presence, but as we know, it’s the people that make up the church! Our Open and Affirming congregation has a membership of 85 people, many friends of the church, two part-time paid pastors (one for ministry within the church and the other for community outreach), a music director, and administrative assistant in addition to many active volunteers as members and friends of the church.
We remain a theologically diverse and inclusive church. The City of Cadillac has 10,251 residents, but many of our members and friends drive from surrounding towns and counties to participate in our unique covenantal faith community. Like so many other UCC churches, every worship begins with the statement “Whoever you are or wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here!”

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday School is available the first and third Sundays of each month for children 3-12 years old. Children attend Sunday School during the 10:30 am worship service. There is no Sunday School during the months of July and August.

Cadillac First Congregational Church participates in Love INC, a church- based organization offering help to those in need.
Open and Affirming (ONA) Mission Statement
We, the members
and friends of First Congregational United Church of Christ of Cadillac,
Michigan, believe whole-heartedly as a congregational family, that all people
are created in God’s image.
We welcome individuals of all sexual orientation, gender identities and gender expressions into the life and leadership, the ministry and fellowship, and the joys, cares, and responsibilities of our congregation.
We recognize that God’s family is diverse and wonderful and includes lesbians, gays, bi-sexuals, transgender individuals, and those who are questioning their sexual identity. We celebrate God’s gift of loving relationships for us all.
We strive to respectfully address people’s needs and to provide a safe harbor and a nurturing environment to the LGBT community who has suffered discrimination and threats to basic human rights, both from within and without the religious community.
We vow to sustain and safeguard people who are gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgender or questioning; we encourage empowerment by helping persons of all sexual identities to realize and respect their own dignity and potential. We speak out in support of each other, regardless of sexual identity.
Therefore, we align ourselves with positions taken by the General Synod 1985 of the United Church of Christ, the Michigan Conference, and other congregations of the UCC and declare First Congregational United Church of Christ of Cadillac, Michigan is an Open and Affirming congregation.
